PtD Global Indaba

A forum on human resources for health supply chain management

On 12 and 13 October 2022, People that Deliver (PtD), alongside the International Association of Public Health Logisticians (IAPHL), Management Sciences for Health (MSH), Pharmaceutical Systems Africa and SAPICS – and with the support of the Global Fund – will host the PtD Global Indaba at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka, Zambia.

The Global Indaba is a forum on human resources for health supply chain management and will centre on the theme: human resources (HR) for supply chain management (SCM): the missing link to maximising supply chain performance.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic the human resource crisis in health supply chain management in low-income countries is as serious as ever. With eight years remaining to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target of universal health coverage, a greater emphasis must be given to the health workforce, including those who manage the health supply chain.

The Indaba will therefore offer a space to present and share the experiences and knowledge generated in this area in recent years. The programme will be organised along strands of the PtD Theory of Change – staffing, skills, working conditions and motivation – and through plenary sessions, panel discussions, presentations and workshops will showcase international and country-based applications of labour-market approaches. In addition, Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 October will be reserved for workshops.

According to PtD executive manager, Dominique Zwinkels, “All in all the Indaba will be an excellent opportunity to boost our advocacy of the health supply chain workforce. After the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed gaps in our health system we now have a great opportunity to strengthen those professionals who make it function.”

More than 200 delegates are expected from government institutions, public and private sector health supply chain organisations, donor and multilateral organisations, professional associations, academic institutions, country registration bodies and non-governmental organisations.

Registration will open in April and those interested will be able to register on the PtD Global Indaba website. Abstract submissions are also welcomed and should document the work of organisations or independent operations research, in line with the event sub themes to be considered for an oral or poster presentation and/or workshop at the PtD Global Indaba.
