Reaching Underserved Women with Voluntary Family Planning

Since 2012, JSI, through Advancing Partners & Communities (APC), has provided global leadership and support to 22 countries to overcome barriers to accessing voluntary family planning by strengthening community-based service delivery. JSI’s community-based family planning achievements are rooted in tailored, flexible approaches to meet the range and diversity of challenges across and within countries.

In Kenya, the Nyanza Reproductive Health Society built the capacity of local partners to integrate community-based family planning into their ongoing PHE-related activities. The society's initiatives confirmed what the PHE community learned long ago: that community members leaders are the key to successful PHE programs.

Improving Health Services and Outcomes in Ninewa Plains, Iraq

Northern Iraq only recently emerged from war, and security challenges and the effects of trauma and displacement persist. To support a resilient and self-reliant approach to improving access to health services, JSI, through APC, is managing a grant with International Medical Corps that helps to link the development and humanitarian continuum in the Ninewa Plains with a target population of about 64,000 residents. Included in the initiative is enhanced family planning counseling skills and referral pathways for women experiencing gender-based violence.

Increasing Access to Contraception in the U.S.

The U.S. Family Planning National Training Center (FPNTC) increases the ability of Title X-funded organizations to provide high-quality family planning services in the U.S. This web-based toolkit provides resources to support ensuring access to the full range of contraceptive methods for family planning clients who could become pregnant, but wish to avoid pregnancy at this time.

Bringing Family Planning to Communities in Benin 

Between September 2012 and April 2019, JSI, through APC, supported community health programs in Benin, primarily in 10 USAID priority health zones and at the national level. The project focused on three main areas: 1) helping Benin reach its community health goals; 2) expanding and strengthening the country’s package of key health services and practices; and 3) institutionalizing and expanding community-based family planning.
