In our June Monthly Update, we shared a joint letter sent from AIRA and our partners to leaders of Operation Warp Speed (OWS). The letter called out the strong support and need for the Trump Administration to leverage state and local public health and build upon existing immunization infrastructure to deliver COVID-19 vaccine. The letter to OWS has gained national attention. On August 6, U.S. Senators Murray and Reed wrote to Secretaries Azar and Esper echoing the support for public health’s role in COVID-19 vaccine distribution and calling for CDC to take the lead, moving the Department of Defense to a logistics and support role. The letter also highlighted CDC’s decades-long experience with vaccine distribution and pandemic response, and its community partnerships around the VFC and adult immunization programs.
