Join People that Deliver (PtD) and the FIA Foundation for a webinar featuring the four Grand Challenge projects that were part of PtD Last Mile Health Supply Chain COVID-19 Support Programme. During this one-hour webinar, representatives from GreenLight Initiative, SafeBoda, Transaid, and VillageReach will share the results, impact and lessons learned from their innovative projects, which addressed health commodity transportation and logistical challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, in-country logistics systems have been pushed to the limit as they struggle to maintain routine shipments of pharmaceutical products while managing the added burden of supplying COVID-19 treatments, personal protective equipment and vaccines. As global and national supply chains are disrupted and delayed, health supply chain workers need specialised resources and support to do their jobs.
In early 2020 PtD launched the COVID-19 Grand Challenge for Health Supply Chains, which, through a grant model, promoted innovation in global health research. As part of this, PtD launched a call for proposals to seek solutions to critical health commodity transportation and logistics challenges that have been worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic in sub-Saharan African countries, especially at the last-mile. The Grand Challenge provided critical catalytic and seed funding for transportation and logistics organisations with operations in sub-Saharan Africa.
The PtD Grand Challenge programme demonstrated the vital role of the supply chain workforce. The programmes, implemented in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Uganda, and Zambia, have provided health supply chain workers with the knowledge, training and supplies to ensure vital health commodities reach the last mile.
