The global community has made remarkable strides in immunization—vaccines have saved at least 154 million lives over the past 50 years, protecting us from more than 30 life-threatening diseases and helping more children survive than ever before. As we recognize World Immunization Week 2025 and its theme, “Immunization for All is Humanly Possible,” we celebrate a pivotal moment in global health and reflect on the progress we've made together.
At JSI, our commitment to strengthening immunization systems has spanned decades and continents. Working hand in hand with partners across the global health community, we remain focused on preserving hard-won gains and reaching those still left behind. Vaccines are among humanity’s greatest achievements—and with continued collaboration and innovation, we can protect even more lives for generations to come. As new vaccines continue to emerge, we look forward to working with Gavi and other partners, leveraging our experience supporting over 80 new vaccine introductions in more than 24 countries.
As we reflect on these achievements, we also acknowledge the dramatic shifts in the global health and development landscape over the past few months. JSI, like many others in our sector, is adapting with purpose, ensuring our programs continue to deliver impact, even in this rapidly evolving environment. With reduced funding and the termination of key USAID-supported programs that have long anchored services for malaria, HIV, TB, and immunization, as well as significant cuts to multilateral agencies that have been pillars of service and health systems support for many countries, critical gaps are emerging across the global health landscape. As we all respond to bridge these gaps, JSI is collaborating closely with partners across the sector to protect the progress made in public health. We are actively engaging with the broader development community to reimagine how we partner and implement solutions. Our commitment remains steadfast: to improve lives by advancing health and education outcomes for all.
On behalf of our Board, staff, and the communities and clients we serve, I extend heartfelt gratitude to our former and current JSI and World Education staff members, whose dedication and expertise have shaped lasting change around the world.
Together with our partners, we move forward with resilience and resolve, ready to meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve.
Warm regards,
Muka Chikuba-McLeod, President and CEO
