On August 19, 2024, HLN released a new version (v2.43.1) of the Immunization Calculation Engine (ICE) updating its core services. ICE is a state-of-the-art open source software system that provides clinical decision support for immunizations for use in Immunization Information Systems (IIS), Electronic Health Record (EHR), and Personal Health Record (PHR) Systems.

Version 2.43.1 provides core service updates that transition the ICE service to Java 17, Tomcat 10, OpenCDS v6, and Spring v6. This release is functionally equivalent to v1.43.1. There are no changes to the ICE Implementation Guide or the ICE Implementation Guide Codes sheet. Please see the Release Notes for details.

Forthcoming ICE releases:

  • The next ICE release (v2.44.1/v1.44.1) is anticipated by early September. This release will address COVID-19 updates to support the additional dose recommendation for adults ages 65 years and older. This is expected to be the last v1 release.
  • A subsequent ICE release (v2.45.1), will provide support for infant and adult RSV recommendations, including the updated adult RSV recommendations adopted by ACIP in June 2024. With this release, ICE will be fully transitioned to v2.

As always, we continue to monitor updates to immunization recommendations. We will work to incorporate anticipated updated COVID-19 recommendations for the 2024-2025 season into ICE in a timely manner.

See the feature article about ICE in Open Health News.
