Hi all,

I'll be leading a session on rapid deployment of turnkey mobile data collection applications, and showcasing some cold chain apps as examples. Absolutely no programming experience / knowledge required!

Instantly build an app and deploy it on any mobile device to collect GIS tagged data, online or offline. Records automatically sync across devices and data can include photos, videos, audio, barcodes, and even documents. In Mali, technicians use tablets to inventory cold chain equipment, log maintenance / repairs, generate installation reports for remote M&E, recover fridgetag data and more.

In this session, we will:

Develop a feature rich application colaboratively as a group

Add users and set permissions for the application and it's projects

Load fulcrum on your phones/tablets

Use the new app to collect data around the hotel

Review & edit/clean collected data on the web

Export the data to excel, pdf's and other formats

Create a data share on the web

I will then showcase some of the applications implemented in Mali for cold chain activities, and touch on more advanced development concepts and integrations. A couple of links to screenshots from the Fulcrum based CCEIM app that we use in Mali are linked below for reference:

Fulcrum cold chain equipment app: Map view

Fulcrum cold chain equipment app: Equipment listing

Fulcrum cold chain equipment app: Equipment record

Fulcrum cold chain equipment app: Status options

If you’re interested in joining me for this session, be sure to bring a smartphone or tablet (any kind).

See you in Bankgok!

I thought I would create this discusion to share Bangkok restuarant recommendations. If you have been to a restuarant in Bangkok that was particularly good, please share it here.

Although I have not been, I am told that "Namh" restuarant is amazing. It was recently voted the 13th best restaurant in the world (and "the best in Asia").

Dear Tech Net Colleagues,

The Pandemic Influenza Preparedness (PIP) Framework promotes the development of systems and information specific to responding to public health influenza emergencies. Based on lessons learned from the WHO H1N1 response and other gap analyses, a series of objectives have been identified that cut across technical areas of WHO. One of the four overarching objectives of the PIP is to ensure that deployment and regulatory systems are developed as a common approach that would ultimately be used by all agencies responding to an influenza pandemic, including UN agencies, industry, civil society, financial support mechanisms and country governments.

A simulation tool to support planning and allocations of influenza vaccines during a pandemic has been developed and a prototype will be presented at the Innovations Café, during the Tech Net in Bangkok. The idea of the tool is to be able to run a simulation once per year in order to improve stakeholder response for the deployment of influenza vaccines during a pandemic.

The WHO team involved in the development of that tool will be present at the Innovation Café and would welcome your feedback on it. The tool, called “PIPDEPLOY”, has an interface dedicated to each stakeholder.

This is a unique opportunity to test the tool and provide comments in order to improve your interface dashboard. This will therefore contribute to the development of the final version.

We invite you to interact with us at any time during the week. Longer sessions could also be arranged to provide further information on the functionality of the tool.

This is a unified approach to enable better response to pandemics and to improve WHO support to countries. Your feedback is valuable to us!

Sharing the following guidance I have received. Other participants are welcome to provide additional guidance to the group.

The international airport is 'Suvarnabhumi International Airport' which is located in Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province. It is approximately 30km east of Bangkok. Limousine, metered-taxi and bus services are readily available at the airport. Metered taxis are available from the airport. The taxi stand is on the ground floor outside gate 4 and gate 7. Please make your way to the taxi stand by taking the escalator down. The passengers will need to pay an additional 50 Baht (Airport charge) on top of the meter and toll fee.

Airport Rail Link is another alternative public transport from the airport to the city center. Airport Rail Link City Line starts at Suvarnabhumi International Airport and ends at Phaya Thai station. Interchange station at Makkasan Station for MRT (Underground train) at Phetchaburi Station and Phaya Thai station for BTS (Skytrain) Phaya Thai Station. For more information on routes and timetable, please visit http://www.srtet.co.th/internet/en/index.html
;

I have received the following advice from our event management contacts in Bangkok. Sharing with participants for their information.

Upon arrival in Thailand, foreign citizens must hold a valid passport with at least six months validity, a valid Thai visa, and proof on onward travel.

However, visitors from ASEAN or Western countries, including most European, Commonwealth, and North American citizens, are not required to have a Thai visa for visitations less than 30 days in Thailand. They will be granted access through Thailand immigration with a 30-day Thai visa waiver, provided upon arrival. After such time, a Thai visa extension from an immigration office or a Thailand visa from an embassy or consulate outside of Thailand is required.

Immigration policies are subject to change: check with a Thai Embassy or The Ministry of Foreign Affairs http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/4908; for the latest information.
