Experiences with the MCV 5-dose Switch from Africa’s EPI
This video series features EPI managers, along with UNICEF and WHO regional leads, sharing firsthand experiences from countries that have transitioned from 10-dose to 5-dose measles-containing vaccine (MCV) vials for routine immunization. Speakers discuss why countries have pursued the switch, how transitions were planned and implemented, and observed impacts on vaccination coverage, session frequency, wastage, and program efficiency.
The interviews were recorded by UNICEF ESARO during the 2023 EPI Managers’ Meeting in Addis Ababa, with additional follow-up discussions conducted at the UNICEF Regional Office in Kenya. This resource is useful for early-phase orientation and peer learning, helping country teams understand the rationale for the switch and anticipate implementation considerations.
