Implementation Guide for Dual New Vaccine Introduction in Fragile Settings
In fragile and humanitarian (F&H) settings affected by conflict, political instability, or natural disasters, delivering essential vaccines like rotavirus vaccine (RVV) and pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) is critical yet challenging. These vaccines prevent severe diarrhea and pneumonia, major causes of childhood morbidity and mortality. Introducing these two new vaccines simultaneously requires careful planning to address issues such as limited supply chain capacity, security risks, and vaccine hesitancy (refer to Annex 3 for preparedness assessment checklist). Their dual rollout might strain resources and require tailored strategies to ensure equitable access and high coverage.
This guide provides actionable advice to overcome barriers in the dual introduction of RVV and PCV in F&H settings, drawing on lessons from prior introductions and resources from conflict settings.
