The COVID-19 pandemic is posing an unprecedented challenge to health system globally and having serious implication on immunization services. Routine immunization, supplementary immunization activities and surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases are affected in many countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The decline in routine immunization and impaired surveillance system may well lead to risk of resurgence of vaccine preventable diseases. As the combat with the COVID-19 prolongs, the dynamic adaptation of strategies became necessary, avoiding the disruption of the essential services and planning for the resumption of the activities as soon as the pandemic situation is under controlled. Countries, WHO and partners have been working together s to maintain the core public health services including immunization. This document aims to provide technical guide for better planning, preparedness and implementation for immunization activities amid the pandemic, especially targeting the countries where partners’ support is needed, summarizing the available recommendations. The Section Five highlights the activities to mitigate the impact of the pandemic, depending on the local COVID-19 transmission scenario of either high or/and low transmission status. The COVID-19 related situation varies largely between the countries, and the decision makers in the country is expected to refer this guidance and adjust and modify them to its specific context, for the feasible and sustainable response is sustaining immunization and surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases.
