RSV vaccine Post-Introduction Evaluation (rPIE) | Tools and materials
The RSV post-introduction evaluation (rPIE) is a tool that can be used to evaluate the impact of the maternal RSV vaccine and/or infant RSV maternal antibody (mAb) in a country where the RSV vaccine/mAb has been newly introduced. The objective of the rPIE is to identify challenges, recommend corrective actions, and understand best practices in RSV immunization program implementation.
The post-introduction evaluation (PIE) tools has been used for influenza, COVID-19 and routine childhood vaccines and provides a systematic method for evaluating the impact of the introduction of a vaccine on the existing immunization system in a country. WHO recommends that all countries that have introduced a new vaccine conduct a PIE.
The purpose of the rPIE tools is to provide a systematic method of performing the evaluation that is comparable across countries. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), in collaboration with CDC and the Task Force for Global Health (TFGH) has developed a series of tools and materials for implementing rPIE in countries that have recently introduced RSV immunization programs.
