Technical Brief: Digital Health Interventions for Supportive Supervision of Health Workers Providing Immunisation Services
This technical brief investigates the potential of digital tools to improve the performance of health workers in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Health personnel encounter obstacles such as inadequate training, inefficient data reporting, and the subsequent difficulty in monitoring unvaccinated children. Mobile health (mHealth) applications, electronic immunisation registries (EIRs), clinical decision support systems, and remote learning tools are among the digital interventions that help resolve these concerns. It is underscored in the brief that digital health solutions enhance the efficacy of immunisation services, enhance communication, and streamline data capture practices. It illustrates how digital tools can improve immunisation coverage and decision-making, reduce administrative burdens, and enhance health worker training. There are several suggestions, such as the integration of health interventions with existing systems, the deployment of solutions in remote areas, the provision of continuous training and support, and the investment in digital tools.Health professionals' digital literacy, connectivity issues, and the necessity of user-friendly, locally tailored tools are among the primary obstacles. The brief states that digital health interventions can substantially enhance the performance of health systems and immunisation outcomes in with the appropriate infrastructure, training, and stakeholder engagement.
