Report

From Evidence to Impact: A synthesis of gender analyses in immunization

Bringing together findings from 33 gender analyses in 29 countries, this report explores how gender-related barriers impact immunization. The report identifies obstacles at five levels - system, health services, community, household and individual - and highlights how gender norms, limited decision-making power and poor access to information restrict vaccine uptake, especially among women, adolescent girls and zero-dose children.

Key recommendations include strengthening gender data, engaging communities and religious leaders, tailoring outreach to adolescent girls and empowering women health workers. A survey assesses how UNICEF country offices are incorporating gender-related recommendations in their immunization strategies.

To support implementation, the accompanying policy brief provides an overview of barriers to immunization alongside priority actions to tackle them. The annexes offer detailed report findings featuring country-specific insights, tools and examples. Together, these resources can help accelerate gender-responsive strategies to ensure equitable immunization access and accelerate progress towards Immunization Agenda 2030 goals.
