Position Statement on Sustainable Financing for Primary Health Care and Immunization in Ghana

Ghana is due to graduate from Gavi support for vaccine financing by January 2030. On September 16, 2026, the Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI), Hope for Future Generations (HFFG) and the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) released this position statement, following an academic symposium they co-convened.

Among other things, it calls on the government to create a ring-fenced immunization budget line; earmark a share of tobacco and alcohol excise taxes and of mining and petroleum royalties; explore instruments such as health bonds and an airline-ticket levy; and invest more in preventive health. The four-page statement is attached to the LinkedIn post.
