Review of progress and way forward on measles and rubella elimination activities in the WHO South-East Asia Region

The specific objectives of the review were to: i) provide a candid estimation or review of the

progress towards achieving the regional goal by 2023; ii) assess the quality of implementation of

strategies laid out in the “Strategic Plan for Measles and Rubella Elimination in the WHO SE Asia Region

2020–2024” in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, and provide recommendations on how the

strategies and principles should be refined to accelerate progress towards the regional goal; iii) review

subnational data on immunization coverage and surveillance indicators to plug the immunity gaps in

countries of the Region; iv) identify risks and barriers for countries to progress and ways and means

to address them with urgency; and v) recommend a set of political and programmatic priorities over

the next three years (2022–2024) for implementers, measles endemic countries and donors in order
