Burden and Risk Assessment of Typhoid (BRAT): technical resources
The Burden and Risk Assessment for Typhoid (BRAT) frameworkoutlines a systematic approach for collatingand reviewing existing data sourceson typhoid burden andriskat a national levelto inform prevention and control decisions, including TCV introduction. It incorporates criteria for judging the quality of the data and focuses on five main areas of assessment:
1- Incidence of S. Typhi;
2- Rank order of S. Typhi among other bloodstream infections;
3- Prevalence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) among S. Typhi isolates;
4- Typhoid intestinal perforations;
5- Risk factors for the transmission of typhoid, including water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).
A BRAT Methodology Zip file attached includes all the needed documents to run the BRAT framework. The file includes 4 folders, each include the specific information needed.
Folder 00: Project_Managment_and Planning. It includes all the BRAT framework narrative, implementation manual.
Folder 01: Data Collection_Tools. It includes training material and the ODK package, in addition to job aids for data collectors and supervisors.
Folder 02: Reports. It includes ODK output analysis and BRAT results presentation template.
Folder 03: References_Documents: It includes WHO Typhoid Surveillance Report and WHO typhoid vaccine position paper, in addition to Gavi Typhoid Data Guidance documents.
