Situation Analysis Checklist

Given the many unique aspects of HepB Birth Dose vaccination, a situation analysis is essential for developing strategies and planning.  This tool contains a digital version of the situation analysis checklist found in Annex 4 of Preventing Perinatal Hepatitis B Virus Transmission: A Guide for Introducing and Strengthening Hepatitis B Birth Dose Vaccination, available at: https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789241509831 

The situation analysis checklist should be used during the Planning stage, to identify key information and data needed to plan effective strategies for hepatitis B birth dose delivery, including:

• strengthening collaboration and coordination between EPI and maternal and child health programmes to leverage existing efforts such as pregnancy tracking, strategies for reaching infants born outside of health facilities, for skilled delivery and postnatal care
• opportunities for linking HepB birth dose with other interventions delivered with early postnatal services
• where applicable, training and supervision of skilled birth attendants or other cadres of community health workers who are able to administer vaccine

Please note: these questions are meant to help identify important information specific to HepB BD that should be given consideration when developing an introduction plan and delivery strategy. This is not meant to be comprehensive of all aspects of new vaccine introduction in general.

Readiness Assessment Tool

The assessment tool consists of a national and a subnational-level tool. Suggestions for optimal timing and intervals are shaded in yellow. 

These tools are completely adaptable to be fit for purpose at the country level.
