Moldova primary vaccine store meets WHO-UNICEF global criteria for
effective vaccine store management.
The Republic of Moldova's primary vaccine store in Chisinau has received
recognition for meeting the WHO-UNICEF global criteria for effective
vaccine store management. An external evaluation team announced, after
completion of the assessment (6-10 December 2004), that the Chisinau
primary vaccine store has achieved a score of over 80% in all the required
areas: pre-shipment and arrival procedures, temperature control, sufficient
storage capacity, standards of buildings, equipment and transport,
effective maintenance, stock management, and vaccine distribution.
The Republic of Moldova is the second country after the Sultanate of Oman
to achieve such standards. Moldova's winning EVSM score may be viewed from
the attached file. Moldova has conducted an assisted self-assessment in
July 2003 and scored between 27-100%. Over the past months, management
performance was brought to a desired level by the dedicated work of the
General Epidemiology Department personnel, also responsible for running the
national immunization programme.
We would like to congratulate all the staff involved in bringing and
sustaining the quality performance of the primary vaccine store during the
assessment period. We appreciate the dedication of the General Epidemiology
Department staff, especially Dr. Oleg Benes (Epidemiologist, General
Epidemiology Department), Dr. Anatolie Melnic (Head, General Epidemiology
Department), Dr. Vasile Sohotchi (Deputy Director, General Epidemiology
Department) and Mr. Chenadi Otel (Store keeper, Primary vaccine store).
During the past months they brought the performance up to the required
levels. We ought to mention also the continued support of WHO and UNICEF.
Thanks to Dr. Pavel Ursu (Liaison Officer, WHO Liaison Office), Dr. Viorica
Berdaga (Assistant Project Officer, UNICEF).
