POST 01255E: SURVEY OF IMMUNIZATION LOGISTICS TRAINING PROGRAMMES AND RESOURCES
16 APRIL 2008
*******************************************
Dear All,
WHO/IVB and PATH have recently received a 5 year grant from the Bill and Melinda GATES foundation for a project entitled "Optimize: Immunization Systems and Technologies for Tomorrow"
One aim is to establish a baseline assessment of training programs and resources that specifically target some aspect of logistics or medicines/supplies management. This could be an entire course (e.g. WHO-UNICEF Effective Vaccine Store Management Initiative) or a module in a larger course (e.g. the Logistics module of the WHO/AFRO Mid-Level Management Course for EPI Managers).
Most importantly, this is not limited to immunization but could include training/courses on disease-specific stores management, Cold Chain & integrated supply chain management, equipment/vehicle management and maintenance, etc. ANY good course or training, whether globally, regionally or nationally produced, is sought; especially those that have been piloted or rolled-out nation-wide.
To assist, here are some specific questions:
1) What health logistics courses currently exist?
2) Are there any studies/reports that evaluate the effectiveness of any logistics training course? Evidence from countries experiences implementing innovative training approaches & methods are especially sought.
Please provide an internet link or contact address to obtain information. An electronic copy would be wonderful!
3) Also, what training topics are not being addressed adequately? One example given is a need for training on “How to outsource Cold Chain equipment repair/maintenance".
4) Looking at how immunization logistics might evolve, what do you feel will be the TWO most important future training needs?
5) What national or regional centers conduct public sector logistics training? What materials do they use?
Any references or sources you can bring to light will be very much appreciated. We have a very tight time frame (this Friday) to collect information, so don't hesitate to send a reference, link or document to: []
Best regards,
