Why join this session?

While planning, forecasting, and budgeting are essential stages of a strategic approach to vaccine procurement, legal and regulatory requirements often shape—and at times constrain—procurement timelines. In this final session, we will explore how these factors influence vaccine procurement, decision-making, and overall success.
You will gain practical, real-world insights from government partners in Ghana and Moldova, alongside our series expert from Canada.
This session will allow you to:

  • Understand how legal and regulatory requirements impact procurement timelines and success;
  • Identify common bottlenecks—and how to overcome them;
  • Learn how to integrate regulatory considerations early into procurement planning;
  • Hear peer-to-peer experiences and practical solutions from other countries.

Building on the series

Throughout this series, we have explored:
•    How to better tie in planning, forecasting and budgeting within the procurement timeline?
•    What mitigating strategies can you leverage to prevent commonly-faced supply risks?
In this final discussion, we take a step back and look at how aligning the procurement timeline with other influencing factors — such as legal and regulatory requirements — is equally critical. Viewing vaccine procurement as a continuous, interconnected process is key to preventing stockouts and ensuring vaccine security.

Speakers

Subject-matter expert:
•    Heather Deehan, Director, Innovative Supply Solutions and Pandemic Readiness, Public Health Agency of Canada
Country perspectives:
•    Charles Apalawino, Cold Chain Manager, Ghana Health Service
•    Veaceslav Guțu, Director adjunct, National Agency for Public Health, Moldova
Moderator:
•    Ann Ottosen, Senior Manager, Vaccine Centre, UNICEF
