  • Dear colleagues,

We’d like to invite you to a new webinar: ‘Reaching Zero-Dose Children: Insights from Six Implementation Research Studies’, organised by the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research (AHPSR), the WHO and TechNet.

Come learn how implementation research is helping immunization programmes reach zero dose children!
Under the MAINSTREAM project, the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research and the Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals Department at WHO in collaboration with local mentor institutes have supported small, local and policy-relevant implementation research projects in Cameroon, Ghana, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique and Pakistan. These projects aim to improve vaccine coverage and equity and strengthen the learning approaches in local contexts.

MAINSTREAM supported 25 local IR projects – during this webinar we will hear from six projects covering topics including community health worker interventions, integration of immunization with other services, leveraging digital innovations to identifying zero-dose children and flexible vaccination time slots to be more caregiver friendly. We will also reflect on how to support EPI teams to integrate IR into their efforts for evidence-informed decisions.

Join us on Tuesday, 09 December at 14.00 – 15.30 CET. French interpretation will be available.

  • Dear colleagues,

We are delighted to invite you to a new webinar: Catch-Up Vaccination: Insights from 5 Big Catch-up Country Case Studies, organised by the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research, the WHO and TechNet.

The Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research and the Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals Department at WHO in collaboration with local partners have conducted case studies of the BCU implementation and plans for institutionalization in Cameroon, United Republic of Tanzania, Yemen plus subnational cases from Bauchi and Rivers states in Nigeria and Punjab and Sindh provinces in Pakistan.

On Monday, December 1st come hear lessons learned from the planning and implementation of the BCU as well as local strategies for institutionalizing catch-up efforts to ensure ongoing efforts to reach children who have missed vaccine doses including challenges for the future.

With this session, we plan to

    - Improve understanding of the practical challenges and solutions in the planning and implementation of catch-up vaccination activities; and
    - Engage in dialogue and peer learning on the strengths and limitations of integrating catch-up strategies into national immunization programs.

Monday, December 1st at 14.00 – 15.30 CET. French and Arabic interpretation will be available.

  • Dear colleagues,

We are delighted to invite you to a new webinar: WHO PCV vaccination recommendations: 1p+1 dose schedules organised by the WHO and TechNet.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has released an updated Position Paper on Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) vaccination, introducing new recommendations on dose-reduced schedules, including the 2-dose “1p+1” schedule (one primary dose plus one booster dose).
While the 1p+1 schedule is not yet included in current PCV product licenses, WHO notes that off-label use may be justified under specific national conditions and with expert recommendations — offering potential benefits in cost savings and reduction of injections.

    This webinar will:

    * Present the updated WHO recommendations on PCV vaccination.
    * Discuss key considerations for countries exploring the adoption of the 1p+1 schedule.
    * Provide insights relevant to national immunization programme decisions.

    Target audience:

    * WHO and UNICEF colleagues (regional and country levels)
    * National immunization programme managers
    * Immunization partners and technical agencies

The webinar will be conducted in English, with simultaneous interpretation in French.

When: Wednesday, November 19th, 1pm-2.30pm CET

  • Dear colleagues,

You are invited to a new TechNet webinar: Protection from birth: Expanding access to hepatitis B birth dose

WHO estimates that 254 million people were living with chronic hepatitis B infection (HBV) in 2022 and 1.3 million new infections each year. Hepatitis B Birth Dose (HepB-BD) vaccine, given within 24 hours after birth and followed by at least two subsequent doses, is approximately 90% effective at preventing perinatal HBV infection. By the end of 2023, only 17 countries in AFRO had introduced HepB BD; in EMRO, all but 5 countries have introduced the vaccine.

Since the launch of the Gavi HepB-BD vaccine programme in June 2024, 12 countries have been approved, with introductions planned for 2025 and 2026.

On October 1, WHO in collaboration with Gavi and other partners will conduct an interactive webinar to provide information to stakeholders in countries that plan to apply for Gavi support.

    This webinar will:
    - Share WHO recommendations, guidance and tools for introducing HepB BD vaccine
    - Share the global and regional Triple Elimination goals and targets
    - Provide an update on the available Gavi support for countries to introduce HepB BD vaccine, including implications for countries moving into Gavi 6.0.
    - Answer any questions or address concerns of countries/ Gavi teams and alliance partners on the new programme.

Interpretation in French will be available.
