Redefining meaningful use: achieving interoperability with immunization registries

This article discusses the effects of The Meaningful Use Incentives Program, which promotes the use of electronic health records (EHRs), on immunization information systems (IIS) in the United States. While this program promote the use of EHRs, there is a significant missed opportunity to integrate this information with IIS and make the two systems interoperable. Potential solutions to this and future implications are also discussed.
