How Can Thinking and Working Politically Strengthen Your Health Commodity Supply Chain?

Supply chain practitioners are motivated by a shared goal: to see that people can reliably obtain the health products they need, when and where they need them. Despite best efforts, however, political factors often pose a barrier to fully achieving the impact we strive for.

Join the USAID Local Health System Sustainability Project (LHSS) to learn how thinking and working politically and using political economy analysis (PEA) can strengthen efforts to reform health commodity supply chains. Thinking and working politically recognizes that solutions that appear technically sound may not work if political incentives are absent or insufficient. We’ll share our new, easy-to-read primer discussing the value of thinking and working politically and when and how to apply PEA to fortify supply chain technical assistance and reforms. There will be plenty of time for questions and answers with our panelists.

The Local Health System Sustainability Project (LHSS) is USAID’s flagship initiative in integrated health systems strengthening. Its goal is to help low- and middle-income countries transition to sustainable, self-financed health systems as a means to support access to universal health coverage. The LHSS Project is led by Abt Associates.
