Dear VPPN Members, 

On the 19^th and 20^th of October, the regional MENA VPPEF was held in Amman, Jordan – the first to be held in-person since the onset of COVID-19 – resulted from great collaboration between UNICEF Supply Division and the UNICEF Middle East and North Africa Regional Office (MENARO). The event brought together over 50 participants from 12 countries in the MENA region.

The Forum provided many opportunities to discuss vaccine procurement in the region, including updates around immunization programme performance in MENA Region, as well as a deep dive on new vaccine introductions, with a focus on HPV, PCV and Rota. The discussions were fruitful and constructive and looked at working towards achieving vaccine security, including best practices to ensure sustainable access to immunization services. On Day 2, the participants provided their viewpoint on programmatic implications of new vaccine introduction in national immunization programmes,  and shared lessons learned around overcoming challenges faced in their recent country efforts,  including access to sustainable financing. 

Government partners, with the support of UNICEF and Alliance partners, including WHO and Gavi, identified concrete next steps and key priorities, as well as developed country-specific roadmaps to address some of the challenges and objectives identified during the meeting. 

This is a great first step, and further conversations will be supported at the regional level, as well as globally via the VPPN online events. Stay tuned!
