Dear TechNet Community,
It’s getting close to two years since the 14th TechNet Conference where more than 260 of you joined us during the week of 11-15 May 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand.
With this two year anniversary fast approaching, some of you may be wondering: what is happening with the next TechNet Conference?
We are now pleased to formally announce that the 15th TechNet Conference will take place on 16-20 October 2017 in Lisbon, Portugal. More specifically, the venue is 30mins out of Lisbon in a seaside resort called Cascais (http://www.visitcascais.com/). The venues selected is the Cascais Mirage and has the necessary meeting space and infrastructure to accommodate for a large scale gathering (http://www.cascaismirage.com/en).
Why Portugal you might be asking yourselves? Since 2001, the TechNet Conference has rotated venue across the six WHO regions. The European Region (EURO) previously hosted the 9th TechNet Consultation in 2004 in Antalya, Turkey (http://www.technet-21.org/home/about-technet/timeline). In 2017, it loops back to EURO to host. In consultation with our European Regional Office, we agreed that Portugal would be a good destination. And after all, why have it in Geneva or Copenhagen at that time of the year when it will be grey and dark?
Given that the last TechNet Consultation had a unprecedented number of participants (261 to be precise) representing all key immunization stakeholders at global, regional and country level, we’re anticipating that a similar level of interest will be manifested this time around. Furthermore, we foresee an agenda that continues on the theme of the previous conference focusing on: “Immunization Supply Chains”. Of course, we expect to host the various side events including the Innovations Café, the Manufacturers Marketplace and the Partner Poster Gallery.
With the venue and dates now set, a multistakeholder TechNet Conference Planning Committee will be established very shortly to develop the agenda. We will make sure to keep you informed along the way. In doing so, we will take on board the feedback received from the last conference and make sure this TechNet Conference continues to be an interactive forum for:
- North-South exchanges on innovative technologies and approaches to ensure vaccine supply chain logistic systems reach the 5th child
- South-North & South-South exchanges on field and country experiences relating to immunization supply chain and logistics strengthening within the context of new vaccine introduction and the deployment of new technologies and approaches to achieve coverage and equity objectives.
- South-North exchanges to help the global level shape and prioritize efforts as we count-down to 2020.
In the meantime, please save the dates in your calendar and keep an eye out for future announcements on the TechNet forum (you can also follow TechNet on Twitter for important conference updates: https://twitter.com/TechNet21Mod).
Conference registration will be available shortly along with a dedicated webpage on TechNet where all the latest conference information will be made available. So watch this space and please spread the work within your networks.
