I wanted to share with you a new resource that VillageReach has created describing our first-hand experience with selecting a drone company to operate flights in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique.

In 2019, VillageReach issued two independent global requests for proposals (RFPs) to select a drone service provider (drone 3PL) for transport of immunization products, lab samples and other health products. This document discusses two important questions that came into consideration for the selection:

• What should governments or organizations look for in a drone delivery partner?
• What are the criteria that needs to be considered to meet the current health system needs?

The lessons learned document is embeaded with five tools – examples of RFPs and budget, technical scoring matrix, and contract templates – all of which can be adapted for use by governments or organizations looking to select and contract a drone 3PL, especially in low-resource settings.
