The WHO Department of Immunization Vaccines and Biologicals (IVB) is pleased to announce the upcoming second webinar series on Why Gender Matters for Immunization: IA2030.
The Immunization Agenda 2030 envisions a world where everyone, everywhere, at every age, fully benefits from vaccines to improve health and well-being. Gender-related barriers and gender inequality can prevent people, both male and female, from getting vaccinated.
Building upon the first webinar series organized in 2023, this second series of webinars, based on the joint WHO, UNICEF and Gavi guidance document Why Gender Matters: IA2030,aims to further improve awareness and understanding of how gender-related barriers impact immunization. The series will focus on examples and best practices of gender-responsive programming to improve coverage and equity from around the world.
The webinar series will run across 5 sessions, on Thursdays from 15-16h (CET): 7 March, 4April, 9 May, 6 June, 11 July. Additional information available in the poster below. Sessions will be in English, with simultaneous translation into French.

The first webinar session in the second series on Why Gender Matters for Immunization: IA2030, will take place on Thursday 7 March 2024.
Session 1: Gender responsive actions to improve the quality, accessibility, and availability of services
Immunization programmes are sometimes designed without the meaningful involvement of women and girls and the communities they are part of, thus limiting their agency in the journey towards immunization. Ahead of International Women’s Day, the first webinar of this series will showcase two different examples of meaningful inclusion of women and girls through innovative strategies that put caregivers and health care providers at the centre of their design.

Session 2: Empower and collaborate with civil society and change agents to overcome gender barriers
Civil society, grassroots organizations and change agents are powerful allies in overcoming gender barriers and increasing demand for immunization services. They often work in the hardest-to-reach communities and have the local expertise to disseminate immunization programme information. The second webinar of this series will showcase two promising approaches that aim to identify and reach zero-dose children and improve access to health services through the involvement of women's organizations in urban Mali and India.

The 5th webinar session in the series on Why Gender Matters for Immunization: IA2030, will take place on Thursday 11 July 2024.
Session 5: Implement gender-responsive immunization services in emergency settings
Emergencies, such as outbreaks, disasters and conflict, affect women, girls, boys and men differently. To be effective, immunization services must be responsive to and address the different needs, priorities, capacities and roles of people in emergency situations. Overlooking gender issues in emergency planning and response creates a danger for further entrenching gender norms and expectations, creating negative outcomes for women and other marginalized groups. Through concrete examples from different countries, the last webinar of this series will focus on the importance of gender mainstreaming in health and immunization emergencies. We will learn how rapid gender analysis during outbreaks can not only contribute to gender equity and equality but also strengthen health emergency programming at all levels.
