Applying Human-Centered Design to Reach Zero-Dose Children in Urban Slums: Insights from Nifas Silk Lafto sub city, Kersa Bella site, Addis Ababa
This poster presentation summarizes how human-centered design (HCD) was used to reach children in an urban slum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The HCD approach enabled deep community engagement to surface root causes of zero-dose status and collaboratively design practical, locally accepted solutions. By aligning with the EGH framework, the process ensured to design interventions that can address caregivers'service access, and system readiness. HCD proved to be an effective and tailored strategy not only for improving immunization performance but also for strengthening community ownership and trust in health services. Scaling such community-driven approaches across other urban slums could significantly enhance equity in immunization delivery.
